Tooth Preparation Guide

General Principles
The Preparation is intended:

- to provide the basis for good fit between the crown and tooth, and good adaptation between the crown margin and finish line.

- to create adequate space for both the core material and the porcelain veneering.

- to give esthetically pleasing results, not least in regard to the appearance of the crown margin.

- to maximize the biocompatible conditions for long-term function.

- to provide retention.

Procera® Tooth Preparation

For Procera® restorations, a tooth preparation of the chamfer type is the optimum choice. The preparation design is analogous to the architecture of the natural tooth.

  • Chamfer preparation is characterized by thinned margins and a cutting with rounded inner angles and edges.
  • To attain optimum adaptation, the occlusal surfaces of posterior teeth should have a relatively flat surface topography.
  • When it comes to preparation depth, the veneering potential of Procera® AllCeram permits a variation in preparation depth of between 0.8-1.5 mm.
  • For occlusal surfaces in general, and for Procera® the same reduction is recommended as for metal ceramics, depending on the clinical situation.
